Photo Challenge: Object

This week’s challenge had me thinking a bit.

Use one tangible object as both your inspiration and subject

What could I take a snap of, within the building site we’re inhabiting, that might make for an interesting shot?

I parked that thought as I continued sanding and plastering the house through the weekend. Then it dawned on me. We had just unpacked some coffee cup coasters we bought in Perth and you’ll see why below but they make an excellent accompaniment in the frame to my object of choice.

My wedding ring. Pictured below with the ring my wife gave me when we got engaged.

Now back to dreaming of the house being fully habitable 🙂

Photo Challenge: Juxtaposition

An interesting challenge this week – juxtaposition, with this post being brought to you by the colour yellow. Read on to find out why. tells us:
jux·ta·po·si·tion [juhk-stuh-puh-zish-uhn] – noun
1. an act or instance of placing close together or side by side, especially for comparison or contrast.
2. the state of being close together or side by side.
Origin:1655–65; < Latin juxtā side by side + < French position.

Looking around the kitchen table I’m thinking there should be a few items I can gather that would look great juxtaposed and sure enough, I’ve a mostly full bottle of beer (thanks Monteith’s) along with a rather refreshing looking glass of carbonated water (bubbles by Sodastream).

Putting them together (and playing with my new 35mm lens) produced the shots below – bonus being Cath’s birthday flowers to enhance the backdrop.

Purely co-incidental that we’re mostly yellow on this shoot, that’s just how it turned out 🙂

Right, that’s enough typing, the beer is getting warm…

Photo Challenge: Family

This weeks challenge was pretty interesting.

As soon as I saw it was “Family” my first thought was of the family of ducklings that visit us every afternoon.

These little critters wander across the road from the neighbour’s who I suspect are feeding them. They seem to have a regular pattern of visiting us each day for a bit of a browse in the undergrowth before heading next door to do the same.  They probably weren’t that too impressed when we started messing with the front yard though as mentioned in an earlier photo challenge.

By crikey they can browse fast providing some awesome (albeit unintended) motion blur, as can be seen in the third photo below.

D&A Framed in the Waitak’s

It’s Saturday so time for another adventure with Danielle and Alban and today we headed out to the Arataki Visitor Centre for an ice-cream.

Full photoroll for those that can’t wait.

Rather than blat down Scenic Drive in the car though, we took the opportunity to instead walk all the way along Beveridge Track as we’d heard many good things about it from Cath’s Mother who frequently took her dog for strolls that way before moving away from the area.

The track boasts awesome views back to the Auckland’s Sky Tower and right across to the North Shore. A bonus halfway along was arriving at a very well maintained picnic area with awesome views out to the Manukau Harbour.

An obvious choice to try out the tripod Cath bought me for Christmas although the skyline was a little hazy today. We might need to go back when it’s a bit clearer. Something that’s easy enough to do given the track is right on our doorstep 🙂

Anyway, we decided there were too many tourists for us to stop for an ice-cream so we took some pics from the viewing platforms then headed back.

Photo Challenge: Window

Might be a trend appearing here in being late with the weekly challenge…?

This week it’s all about windows and as it’s my first week back in the office this year, I thought I’d snap the view out the window.

Bit of a stormy day out there this morning although it did clear up later in the day.
